The successful production of an effective second-generation bio-fungicide will establish a novel disease control targeting agricultural losses through crop decay, and provide valuable input with regard to maintenance of food security in South Africa and globally. Process development is envisaged to lead to enhancement of upstream production performance and downstream purification optimisation towards the reduction of overall process costs and ultimately to the scale up and implementation of the bio-fungicide as a preferred control strategy.
