The use of essential oils has already been proven as a concept. Unfortunately, as far as sour rot is concerned, inappropriate inoculation techniques hampered the follow-up small scale in vitro trials at the CRI. As part of the development of a multi-target mycobiocide, sour rot control must be proven in vivo. The development of such fungicides not only makes economic sense, but has a management advantage as well.
